MICHAEL STAG

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND MANAGING PARTNER

Michael G. Stag serves as the firm’s managing partner and a member of the Executive Committee overseeing the National PFAS litigation.


Mike is involved in all practice areas at Stag Liuzza, with a particular passion for achieving justice for those who have been harmed by large corporations and oil companies. Mike pioneered the field of Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (TENORM or NORM) litigation. Over the years, Mike has recovered awards of more than $300 million in settlements and in excess of $1 billion in jury verdicts for his clients.


Mike was recognized in the Lawyers Weekly Top 10 Jury Verdicts of 2001 related to the $1.056 Billion verdict Grefer v. Exxon, et al. He was also an executive committee member for the class action in the Patrick Joseph Turner, et al. v. Murphy Oil USA, Inc., which resulted in monetary compensation and cleanup settlement valued in excess of $300 million. 


Prior to his work at Stag Liuzza, Mike worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Ronald J. Sholes at Civil District Court in New Orleans. Currently, Mike’s practice focuses on toxic torts, environmental and royalty litigation, as well as harmful pharmaceuticals and defective medical devices. Mike directs a passionate ensemble of attorneys and staff who are driven to persistently advocate for their clients and to remain steadfast in the pursuit of justice.

ASHLEY M. LIUZZA

CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER & PARTNER

Ashley Liuzza’s practice centers on litigating complex environmental pollution claims, toxic exposure claims, and mineral royalty disputes. Ashley represents a variety of impacted residents, landowners, and mineral owners throughout Louisiana and other states.


She is committed to helping her clients level the playing field against some of the largest corporations and names in the oil and gas industry.


Ashley has successfully resolved numerous mass tort cases involving environmental exposure and pollution. She represented hundreds of residents impacted by industrial air pollution following Hurricane Katrina in re Bertucci Contracting Co., LLC as Owner of the M/V Sharon Gail, 2:12-cv-0664, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Ashley also represented hundreds of residents in Nolan, et al. v. Exxon Mobil Corp., et al. who suffered damages from air emissions from a refinery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Ashley has also successfully litigated numerous oil and gas land contamination cases throughout Louisiana which have led to remediation projects for her clients in addition to monetary recovery.

ASHLEY M. LIUZZA

MERRITT CUNNINGHAM

MULTI-DISTRICT LITIGATION PARTNER

Merritt Cunningham is the Multi-District Litigation Partner at Stag Liuzza and leads the firm’s pharmaceutical and medical device division. Her practice focuses on representing individuals injured by drugs and medical devices marketed by corporations who value profits over the safety of consumers.


A native of Rayne, Louisiana, Merritt graduated from Hunter College in New York City with a degree in English literature. She spent several years working in the fashion industry before attending Charleston School of Law. After earning her Juris Doctorate, she moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast where she helped victims of Hurricane Katrina navigate the state’s grant programs in order to rebuild their lives. Committed to helping those in need, she joined a personal injury law firm in Gulfport, Mississippi, and began her career representing individuals harmed by defective drugs and medical devices.


Merritt has litigated numerous pharmaceutical and medical device cases including Trasylol, Avandia, metal-on-metal hips, Pradaxa, Actos, Fresenius dialysate, IVC Filters, Xarelto, Taxotere, pelvic mesh products, hernia mesh products, Essure, Roundup, CPAP, and Zostavax. She currently represents thousands of firefighters harmed by exposure to toxic PFAS chemicals and serves on personal injury and firefighter committees in the litigation.


Merritt is licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in Louisiana and Mississippi, and has been specially permitted to appear in federal courts throughout the country. She is proud to be a part of the Stag Liuzza team since 2010. Merritt attributes client satisfaction and case success to a strong work ethic and passion for advocating for those who may not be able to do so themselves.

MATTHEW D. ROGENES

ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY

Matthew D. Rogenes is an associate in the environmental pollution and mineral royalties group.


The son of a preacher from northeastern Montana, Matt graduated from Glasgow High School before attending the University of Montana where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. After college, Matt worked in the North Dakota oilfields, where he witnessed first-hand how environmental and worker-safety regulations are disregarded for the true company line – profits. This inspired Matt to go into law to ensure accountability for those who choose to ignore their obligations toward human health and environmental stewardship. Matt has experience litigating oilfield pollution cases, personal injury cases, and wrongful death cases.
